Introduction to Three 4G

Three has launched its 4G mobile network, however it purchased the least amount of 4G frequency spectrum in the UK’s 4G auction. It was also the last major network to launch 4G, but it aims to hit 98 per cent population coverage with 4G ultimately.

Types of 4G from Three:
  • Standard 4G – Around 5 times faster than a standard 3G network.
 4G from Three uses the following network frequency:
  • 800 MHz (0.8 GHz)
  • 1800 MHz (1.8 GHz)

Three 4G Coverage

Three now has over 63% UK population coverage with 4G. Towns and cities with partial or full coverage include: Aberdeen, Birmingham, Blackpool, Bolton, Bournemouth, Bradford, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Coventry, Derby, Dundee, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Gloucester, Huddersfield, Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Luton, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northampton, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Preston, Sheffield, Southampton, Southend On Sea, Stoke On Trent, Swindon, Watford and York.

Three 4G Super Voice

Three is the first and currently only UK network to offer a Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service. Called 4G Super Voice, the service allows customers to make calls over 4G. This improves call quality among other things and is rapidly being rolled out across the UK, with around 65% of the UK population already covered indoors.

Roaming destinations

Three also offers services abroad, allowing you to continue to use your data, minutes and texts at no extra cost. Currently this is available in 18 different locations, specifically Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Lanzarote, Macau, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
That list is growing all the time, however be aware that currently only 3G is offered by Three in these locations.
